CINCINNATI : Accommodations

HOTELS

Springhill Suites by Marriott: “The hotel was very wheelchair accessible. There was both an underground parking area and a surface lot. The hotel has an elevator to take patrons from underground parking area to the hotel. The doors to the hotel were very wide making it easy for a wheel chair to get in and out. Counters at the front desk were low.

The hotel provided a full hot breakfast every morning. There was plenty of seating and a wheel chair could easily fit at any table. The counters with the food were low for easy reach. Also there is a full time attendant on duty to help with anything during the breakfast hours.

The elevators to the rooms were large and conveniently located just off the lobby. I spoke with a hotel representative and she gave me the following information:

There are 2 King rooms that have roll in showers.

There is 1 Queen room with a roll in shower.” Renee, 11/6/2009

ACTIVITIES

Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum: – “The Hall of Fame is located on Third Street and Joe Nuxhall Way directly adjacent to Great American Ball Park. The Hall of Fame is accessible to car/bus transportation directly in front of the museum. The curb in front of the museum is cut to accommodate wheelchair access directly into the front doors of the Museum. Once inside, the Hall of Fame offers a wheelchair on site for anyone who needs assistance throughout the museum. The Hall of Fame also offers an elevator which provides access to the third floor exhibits. At the end of the museum, an elevator takes visitors to the first floor of the Reds Team Shop where merchandise and apparel can be purchased. Restrooms are located both on the first and third floors of the museum, along with restrooms in the Team Shop.” Colin, 10/17/2009

Xavier University: “The campus has all wide sidewalks making it easy for wheelchairs. All of the dorms have elevators as well as the classroom buildings. The student union had a wide ramp to make it easy to go from the top floor to the bottom floor. There were accessible restrooms on the 2nd floor of the Student Union. All doors to the building were wide and had door opening buttons.” Renee, 11/6/2009

“The Cintas Center, where the basketball team plays, had an unusually large number of disabled seating running at least ½ around the arena. Again the ramps made it easy to get to and from the arena. There were several areas where you could purchase food and tables that would make it easy to roll up in a wheel chair. The University was overall very accessible for wheelchairs.” Renee, 11/6/2009

Reds Stadium: “We went to the Red’s stadium and game and again there were wide ramps, lots of handicap seating and easy in and out of the stadium. The Red’s museum had wide aisles and spaces making it easy to get around in a wheel chair. The displays were placed so that you be in a wheel chair and get around easily. There was an elevator from the first to second floor.” Renee, 11/6/2009

Great American Ball Park: “The home of the Cincinnati Reds was built in 2003 and accommodates up to 42,000 visitors.  The ball park is also located on Third Street and Joe Nuxhall Way and the area directly in front of the main entrance contains both steps with railings and a concrete ramp for wheelchair access.  When going through the ticket lines, a separate line is available for people with disabilities.  A total of seven public elevators and three escalators are available throughout the ball park to take guests to a variety of places of interest.  A concrete ramp is also located on the main level of the ball park and offers the same access to areas throughout the ball park.” Colin, 10/17/2009

“Disabled parking is available in the Great American Ball Park Parking Garage in the East Parking Garage. While the number of disabled parking spaces is more than adequate, Guests are still encouraged to arrive at the time gates open to improve their chances of obtaining a accessible parking space.   Great American Ball Park has disabled seating available in most seating areas. Disabled seating areas are equipped with electrical outlets for recharging purposes at no cost to the Guest.” Colin, 10/17/2009
