When traveling to places where accessibility can be questionable, purchase and carry a light weight, foldable “suitcase ramp”. Great for those places that have a couple of annoying steps. The ramp fits nicely in a large skateboard backpack, or hiking backpack, and can be carried by a companion traveler. The ramp is also easy to check at the airport.
Puerto Limon is the capital of the Limon Province in Costa Rica. There are a few tour companies that cater to the physically challenged traveler, allowing access to this beautiful country beyond the cruise port.
The official language of Costa Rica is Spanish, although Mekatelyu, a regional language, is also spoken. We were able to get by on our visit using a mix of broken Spanish and English.
The official currency of Costa Rica is the colón, which floats against the U.S. dollar. On our trips from the U.S., we have not found a need to exchange dollars for the local currency.
